BALTIMORE - The centerpieces of the memorial to Maryland's victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks are being delivered to Baltimore.
The three twisted steel beams, which were once part of the north tower of World Trade Center in New York, were placed at the site of the 9/11 Memorial of Maryland on Tuesday.
The memorial in the plaza of Baltimore's World Trade Center Building beside the Inner Harbor will be dedicated next month on the 10th anniversary of the attacks.
The 5,000-pound steel beams will rest atop a stone base bearing the names of the 68 Marylanders who died in the attacks. Artifacts from the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pa., also will be incorporated into the memorial site.
