BALTIMORE - Three Baltimore firefighters were injured in an explosion sparked by a car fire, according to fire department spokesman Ian Brennan.
The firefighters were tending to a car fire at North Calvert and East Pleasant streets sometime before 7:45 p.m.
The fire from the car's gas tank fueled an explosion that injured three firefighters.
One of the responders was transported to Mercy Hospital. The other two firefighters were taken to another local hospital.
Brennan said their injuries were not life-threatening.
Crews remained on the scene until after 8 p.m. to extinguish the blaze.
