A 31-year-old woman was struck and killed by an MTA light rail vehicle Tuesday night in Ferndale.

Anne Arundel County Police say around 7 p.m. an officer was flagged down by a motorist at the trestle between Route 648 and Broadview Boulevard  for an injured woman.

The officer saw the victim had severe injuries and was found just off Broadview Blvd. on the access road close to the trestle.  Medics responded and attempted lifesaving measures, however the woman died at the scene, police said.

Police identified the woman as Amanda Renea Payton, 31 of Glen Burnie.

Early investigation suggests Payton was struck by an MTA light rail train which had been heading southbound toward the Ferndale stop.

The victim's body was transported to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

This incident remains under investigation.
