After two years and a $24 million upgrade, West Annapolis Elementary is about to start its 122nd school year in a new high-tech building.

The previous school building, built in 1983, needed a lot of improvement to be able to house the new tech-savvy student. Over the 24 months, construction crews were busy adding a new video-linked security system, a climbing wall in the gymnasium, a fully-outfitted computer lab and interactive white boards installed in every classroom.

Needless to say, the teachers were just as excited as the students for the upgrades. "I mean this is so exciting. We have everything that we can every imagine," gleamed teacher Mary Taneyhill. "We have the technology, we have the space, the beauty the light. We have everything."

West Annapolis Elementary students will head back to class Tuesday along with the rest of Anne Arundel County students.
