Utility poles downed following crash between garbage truck, SUV in Pasadena

PASADENA, Md. - Multiple people have been injured following an accident between a garbage truck and an SUV late Tuesday morning in Pasadena.

The accident occurred around 9:45 a.m. at Water Oak Point Road and Fort Smallwood Road. The collision led to Verizon utility poles being struck and caused power lines to fall.

Among the injured was the 32-year-old driver of the SUV, who was flown to Shock Trauma with life-threatening injuries. The 39-year-old garbage truck driver was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Anne Arundel County fire officials said the road would be closed for an unknown amount of time, although residents are able to walk down the street and those stuck on the inside of the crash site are being allowed to leave.

Also, communications could be out of service for 24 hours or more due to the downed lines, fire officials said.
