The new superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy says he won't tolerate a double standard for athletes.
Vice Adm. Ted Carter said Thursday that he spoke with the superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy after it launched an investigation into its athletic department due to reports of lax oversight and athlete misconduct.
Carter says he also spoke to faculty and staff of Navy's sports teams on Thursday. He says that his sense so far is that there is not "a cultural issue" in Navy sports, even when considering the charges against three Navy football players last year in a sexual assault case.
Carter says: "If there is an issue, we're going to take care of it." He says all Navy students are athletes and must be treated the same.
