Two hurt, 1 critical, in Route 100 crash

HANOVER, Md. -

A multi-car crash sent two people to the hospital including a young man who police said was found unresponsive and without a seatbelt.

Anne Arundel County Police said just before 5:30 on Friday afternoon officers were called to a two car crash on Route 100 west near Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2007 Honda was stopped for traffic in a westbound lane of Route 100.  A 2000 Volkswagen Passat driven by Ryan Albright rear ended the Honda and began to slide sideways. The Volkswagen flipped over several times before landing upright on the right shoulder of the westbound lanes.

Paramedics found Abbot unrestrained and unresponsive in the Passat. He was treated at the scene and taken to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where he is in critical condition.

The driver of the Accord, identified as Mary Kroder of Ellicott City, was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with minor injuries.

Crash Investigators from the Traffic Safety Section are investigating.  Police said preliminary indications suggest excessive speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash.
