Swimming advisory issued for South River

RIVA, Md. (WMAR) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has issued an advisory against swimming and other direct water contact at South River Heights in Riva.

The advisory was issued due to high levels of bacterial found in water samples that were collected on June 12 and 18.

The beach, located on the South River, is tested biweekly during the summer as part of the water quality sampling program. The advisory will remain in effect until water samples show bacterial levels are acceptable.

The Department advises people who have come in contact with the affected water to was well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.

Many factors, such as waterfowl, rainfall, temperature and tidal action can cause high bacteria readings.
