One man was seriously injured after a tree fell onto the passenger bus he was operating Wednesday morning. The incident shut down southbound Ritchie Highway between Chautaugua Road and Route 50 in Arnold.
Firefighters responded to the area just after 7:15 a.m. for reports of a tree fallen onto a bus with a person trapped inside. Upon arrival, firefighters found a small bus had been hit by a tree while it was traveling on Ritchie Highway.
The driver, a 57-year-old male, was trapped and two passengers complained of minor injuries, fire officials said. Crews worked for about 35 minutes to free the driver. He was treated by paramedics and transported to a Maryland State Police helicopter which had landed at a nearby church.
The man was taken by helicopter to Shock Trauma with serious but not life threatening injuries. The two patients with minor injuries were taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center by paramedics.
