Rita's in Linthicum Heights honored a local cancer survivor by making her Chief Ice Maker for a day.

Cecilia Colison was diagnosed with a type of brain cancer in 2012. Her mother, Carri, said Cecilia is a fighter and at the end of the year marks five years since her last treatment.

On Wednesday, Cecilia became a member of the Rita's team. She made frozen treats and served guests throughout the day.

The honorary moment was part of the company's month-long promotion to support Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) for Childhood Cancer.

"It's just nice to know that other people support the same thing that we do with trying to help other cancer patients," Cecilia said.

Rita's encourage's guests to buy a paper lemon to raise money for ALSF's travel fund. The company will also contribute $1 to the foundation for every photo that is taken during Alex's Month and uploaded to the Rita's Facebook page.

"We're not just a place where you can come and get custard or ice," said Ian Whipkey, worker at Rita's of Linthicum Heights. "We like to be part of the community. Everyone that comes in here is kind of like our family."
