The fire broke out just before 1 a.m. on the second floor of at an apartment building in the 700 block of Fairview Avenue in Annapolis. The fire went to three alarms and took about 90 minutes to get under control.

A total of 22 units in four buildings were damaged. Some of those units were vacant and right now, it's unclear how many families were affected.

There were two injuries reported, one to a firefighter and one to a resident. Both were taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Red Cross said it is still assessing the needs of the families left homeless by the fire. It is providing health services to the people affected.
