The Anne Arundel County Department of Health is looking for anyone who might have had contact with wild or stray kitten in Glen Burnie after the animal tested positive for rabies.
The kitten, which looked sickly, was found outside of the Royal Farms at the intersection of Oak Manor Drive and Oakwood Road on Feb. 1, according to the department of health.
The kitten tested positive for rabies. Health officials said the kitten was a grey and black tiger-striped, domestic shorthair kitten that looked similar to the one pictured.
The department is asking anyone who might have had contact with a stray, wild or unfamiliar cat in that area to call 410-222-7256 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. or, after business hours, call 443-481-3140.
Anyone whose animal was bitten or scratched by a stray cat should call animal control at 410-222-8900.
According to the department of health, "Rabies is spread by the bite or scratch of an infected animal, such as a cat, raccoon, fox or bat. It is also spread when the infected animal’s saliva comes in contact with the eyes, nose, mouth or open cut of a person or another animal."
