Police positions open due to misconduct

ANNAPOLIS, Md (WMAR) - For the first time ever, Anne Arundel County had made its job opening for police lieutenants available to police officers from other Maryland counties because current officers won't apply.

The national president of the union that represents Anne Arundel's sergeants and lieutenants called the first-ever open job posting another sign of the department's failed leadership.

"Current Anne Arundel officers don't want the promotion because they know it will bring them a step closer to the failed leadership that has broken their department," said David Holway, national president of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers. "It's shameful that the county's leaders have to advertise elsewhere to bring in superior officers who don't know the extent of the dysfunction and leadership failure."

President Holway once again called on County Executive John Leopold and Police Chief Teare to step down.
