FERNDALE, Md. - A Glen Burnie man had been drinking when he walked into traffic and was hit by a car in Saturday evening, police said.
Lawrence Tholen, 53, suffered extensive leg and facial injuries after he was hit trying to cross Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard just before 6 p.m. Saturday. Police said he stepped in front of a Chevrolet Cruze which unsuccessfully swerved to avoid hitting him.
Tholen bounced off the windshield before landing in the roadway. He was taken to Shock Trauma for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Police report Tholen was wearing dark clothing and crossing against the traffic signal when he was hit. He was however, in the crosswalk.
Police confirm Tholen had been drinking prior to the crash. His alcohol usage is believed to be a contributing factor.
