Anne Arundel County Animal Control rescued 59 cats from a home on Westphalia Court in Glen Burnie, eight of which were found dead.

On Tuesday, April 12, a landlord called Animal Control and Anne Arundel County Police expressing concern about a tenant and the animals living in their home.

Police say they went to the residence and witnessed “deplorable” conditions inside. The tenant wouldn’t allow officials into the home, forcing police to obtain a Search and Seizure Warrant and return the following day.

Once inside, Animal Control removed 51 cats and kittens from the home. Eight cats were found dead. A veterinarian observed the animals and reported that most, if not all, of the cats and kittens were suffering from ailments including upper respiratory infections, malnutrition and dehydration.

The cats aren’t available for adoption and are currently under protective custody with Anne Arundel County, police said.

The incident is still under investigation.
