PASADENA, Md. - One person died in a multi-car crash in Pasadena that severely disrupted traffic and forced the closing of a major roadway for hours, Anne Arundel County police confirmed Tuesday.
Officials urged drivers via Twitter to avoid eastbound Route 100 at Route 10 in Pasadena.
Police were dispatched to the scene of the crash at about 3:15 p.m. One person was declared dead at the scene.
Police said drivers could use alternate routes: Fort Smallwood Road to Mountain Road or Route 2 to Magothy Bridge Road. Officials anticipated that Route 100 at Route 10 would be closed for six or seven hours.
The accident also caused an hour plus delay of backups at Fort Smallwood Elementary School, school officials said.
“At this time, the situation has caused at least a 1-hour delay for all bus transportation,” administrators noted in a statement. “Bus riders will remain at the school under staff supervision until transportation is provided. Car riders will be dismissed at regular dismissal if their rides are present.”
