What if you fed your dog and then just hours later he was dead? Well, that's what one Pasadena woman says happened to her best friend Tuesday.

Anna Volgensang says she fed her dog Cesar Filet Mignon dog food. What she didn't know, was that very variety had been recalled.

Now, she's working with the company but says nothing will bring back her beloved pet.

"It's hard because it took me so long to find him and then for him to die like that, it's really sad," Vogelsang said.

She's now mourning the death of her dog, Babushka.

"You never think that dog food is really going to hurt your baby," she said.

Vogelsang says she fed him recently recalled Cesar Filet Mignon flavored dog food.

"He looked really terrible i mean really terrible he had a hard time breathing because they said it would stop their breathing," Vogelsang said.  "When he threw up over my daughter's there was those big plastic things in that throw up."

Mars Petcare, the makers of the recalled Cesar variety, says a potential choking risk from hard, white pieces of plastic that entered during production prompted the recall.

"My daughter and i were going to take him to the vet and as we came out here he died," said Vogelsang.

Vogelsang has been in contact with Mars Petcare, which reported the recall to the food and drug administration now the company's investigation begins.

"They're going to send me a packet and I have to put those plastic bits in there and send them back so they can see that they really are the same plastic," she said.

Even though it's only been a few days, Anna feels the void.

"We would take like eight walks a day and at this time of day and say, ok let's go to McDonald's and get some chicken nuggets and he'd get all excited," said Vogelsang.

Now, shes left with just reminders like babushka's bed and blanket.

"He was really a good dog, best I ever had."

Babushka is buried here in Anna's backyard, he  died in her arms.

"You know you can understand if your dog gets sick or is hurt and you have to put him down but just because you give him dog food just doesn't seem right," said Vogelsang.

A spokesperson from the company told ABC2 that other consumers have contacted them about this recall but at this time there's been no confirmed deaths or injuries.

The company says its employees are pet owners too and are devastated by this situation and are working to investigate further.  Take back or throw away any affected products.
