ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Annapolis will have a new mayor Monday as Mike Pantelides will be sworn in at a ceremony at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.
Pantelides, a Republican, defeated Democratic incumbent Josh Cohen last month in a race that was decided by just 59 votes and took several days for the results to become official.
Pantelides becomes the first Republican to serve as Annapolis mayor since the late Dean Johnson served in that post from 1997-2001 before losing to Democrat Ellen Moyer as he attempted to win a second term in office.
Cohen leaves after serving one term himself and 12 years in public office overall. Her previously served on the Annapolis City Council and the Anne Arundel County Council before being elected mayor in 2009.
