A 19-year-old man from Pasadena was injured in an incident involving fireworks Monday evening.

Members of the Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit in Anne Arundel County interviewed the man and found that he and a friend had been using ground-based sparklers purchased on a community pier in Anne Arundel County. One of the sparklers malfunctioned and exploded in the face of the patient, which caused injury to both of his eyes.

The patient was treated at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and released early Tuesday morning. He has no apparent permanent eye damage, but does have concussive damage to his ears. The incident is still under investigation.
