Lifeguard saves girl at Sandy Point

During a season of an increased number of drownings across the state, there is a bit of good news.

Natural Resources Police  (NRP) say a 7-year-old girl found floating face down at Sandy Point State Park Saturday afternoon is expected  to survive.

A vigilant lifeguard spotted the girl, pulled her to safety and immediately began CPR.

By the time medics arrived, theunidentified girl was breathing. She even managed a wave as she was being airlifted to an area hospital.

NRP Spokeswoman Candy Thompson says the agency has already investigated 17 drownings this year. Last year there were 19 total.
