Howard County to handle Dwyer case

The Howard County State's Attorney is now handling the investigation into the Delegate Don Dwyer boat crash.
The crash happened in August when the Delegate's boat crashed into another boat on the Magothy River injuring several people, including a young girl.
Shortly after the accident Dwyer admitted that his blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.
Officials say they handed over the case to the Howard County State's Attorney's Office several weeks ago, as is standard procedure when there may be a conflict of interest in the case.
The Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office says that the move was made as the Office has two members of the House of Delegates employed in the Circuit Court Division, both know Dwyer. The Office "felt it best for another jurisdiction to handle the matter so that there would not be any concern as to impartiality."
Currently, Delegate Dwyer has not been charged with anything.
