Anne Arundel County firefighters responded to two fires at vacant buildings over the weekend.

A fire at a vacant cottage in Pasadena caused $10,000 in damages. Firefighters said the fire broke out about 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the 8300 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard. The blaze in the kitchen area of the 150-square-foot cottage was extinguished in less than 10 minutes.

Electrical service had been recently restored to the house, and a stove that had been left on ignited objects on the stovetop, firefighters said.

On Sunday just before midnight, there was another fire at an empty building, this time in Glen Burnie. Heavy fire was coming from the rear of a one-story, single-family home in the 600 block of Furnace Branch Road West near Pleasantville Drive.

It took 40 firefighters from Anne Arundel County and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport about 20 minutes to bring it under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit. Damages are estimated at $110,000.
