Anne Arundel County firefighters were busy overnight battling two fires in opposite ends of the county.
Fire officials said the first incident occurred just after midnight for a call of a house fire in the 1700 block of Columbia Beach Rd. in Shady Side.
When firefighters arrived they found a three-story home heavily involved in fire and threatening adjacent building. The blaze went to a second alarm after crews determined there was on no hydrant system in the area. A total of 50 fire personnel from Anne Arundel County, Annapolis and Calvert County were able to bring the incident under control in two hours.
The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Total damage is estimated at $350,000.
Then around 4 a.m., firefighters responded to another house fire in the 200 block of 4 th Avenue in Brooklyn Park. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke showing from a two-story single family home. Thirty-five personnel from Anne Arundel County and Baltimore City were able to bring this incident under control in less than 30 minutes.
The fire caused approximately $10,000 in damage to the vacant home.
No injuries were reported an the cause of both fires remains under investigation.
