Ex-Anne Arundel Co. police chief returning to job

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -    A former police chief in Anne Arundel County will be returning to the job.
County Executive John Leopold named Larry Tolliver the new chief on Thursday, effective Tuesday.
Tolliver succeeds James Teare Sr., who announced earlier this month that he will retire on Aug. 1.
Leopold was indicted in March on four counts of misconduct in office and one count of fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary. Leopold allegedly used county police officers assigned to protect him to work on his re-election campaign and other jobs. After the indictment, police union members called on Leopold and Teare to resign.
The Capital of Annapolis (http://bit.ly/POwhFM) reports that the 66-year-old Tolliver served as superintendent of state police from 1992 to 1995 and was chief of Anne Arundel County Police from 1997 to 1998.
