ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WMAR) - Anne Arundel County Police Chief Larry Tolliver is under investigation after taking over for former Chief Teare months ago.
Chief Teare stepped down stepped down in the wake of former Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold's misconduct in office conviction.
A letter from Councilman James Benoit accuses Tolliver of punishing officers who testified in the Leopold case.
Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman is looking into the allegations, including some that Chief Tolliver used homophobic slurs.
"I was surprised when I herd of it, because of interacting with him it doesn't sound like something Chief Tolliver would do or put himself in that type of position," said Corporal Chris Powell with the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Neuman added that she wants to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
