Anne Arundel Medical Center delivers quadruplets

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Anne Arundel County Medical Center staff delivered quadruplets on November 1.

Mother Mary Voelcker, of Kent County, Maryland, babies and dad are all doing well, said Anthony Moorman, M.D., one of the doctors who helped deliver the babies.

The babies, two boys and two girls weighed between 2 lbs. 6 oz. to 4 lbs 10 oz. and were all between 14.5 to 17 inches long.

The babies were at  32 weeks and 4 days gestation old when delivered. Typical pregnancies last 40 weeks.

The birth and care of the babies took a team of 20 nurses and 6 additional staff members (including doctors) to complete. Each baby had their own team.

Voelcker's husband is a twin, so the couple expected a multiple birth, but were surprised to find out they were having quadruplets during their eight-week sonogram.

They already had a 3-year-old son.

The Voelcker babies are the hospital's 2nd quadruplet delivery.
