It was amnesty day today in Anne Arundel County.

Anyone with an outstanding failure to appear warrant for traffic and minor criminal offenses could go to the district court to have their case looked at.

Sheriff Ron Bateman says it's a safe and secure way to settle legal problems.

"Going to a picnic with your family, with your children with you and be pulled over for a traffic stop because of a tail light out or speeding and now because you have a failure to appear warrant, you end up getting arrested. Arrested in front of your children, arrested at your job, it could be very damaging to your career or your family and all that,” said Bateman.

This was the first and only amnesty day in Anne Arundel County. Bateman says the event was a success.

Fifty-two people came in and about 70 warrants were cleared.
