Windsor Farm Elementary School was the recipient of a $10,000 prize from BGE’s Natural Gas Safety Hero Challenge.

The annual contest challenges public and private elementary school students at schools in BGE's service area to illustrate gas safety messages featuring Captain Mercaptan, BGE's fictional natural gas safety superhero. The first place image will also be featured in a BGE Natural Gas Safety advertisement in the spring.

There was a special assembly for students Wednesday.

“The kids were so excited, first to win the award and then to be recognized. Then the fact we will be able to use the money to purchase more technology and Chromebooks. There are so many needs for technology usage these days and we've given those students that opportunity,” said Justin Otte, Windsor Farm principal.

The school, which took the top prize and the top fifth-grade class entry, plans to use the money towards the purchase of Google Chromebooks and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities.
