An Annapolis man was killed Sunday night when the boat he was on struck a rock jetty in Whitehall Creek, Maryland Natural Resources Police said.

Two other men were injured in the accident.

Paul Christopher Dettor, 49, was aboard a 20-foot Boston Whaler when the boat struck the jetty, and he was thrown onto the rocks.

According to the Coast Guard, at around 10:45 p.m., a woman was standing in her backyard and heard people screaming for help in the creek.

Crews from the Coast Guard in Annapolis, as well as Anne Arundel County Fire, Maryland Natural Resources Police and Maryland State Police, also responded.

Responders initially couldn't get to Dettor because the water was too shallow. But two responders used a Good Samaritan's boat and began rendering first aid to him.

Dettor was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead. The two other men on the boat were taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

So far in 2016, there have been eight boating fatalities, Natural Resources Police said.
