Aircraft damaged on BWI tarmac

HANOVER, Md. - An American Airlines jet was damaged Sunday after an incident on the tarmac at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport.

According to BWI spokesperson Jonathan Dean, crews responded to an incident at C Concourse when a piece of ground equipment hit an American Airlines jet.

The airport referred ABC 2 News to American Airlines for further information.  As of 5:30 pm American Airlines had not returned calls for comment.

According to a passenger on another flight at the airport, the incident happened around 4 pm at gate C7, near where he was supposed to take off from.  He told ABC2 News passengers on the plane when it happened were evacuated.

According to BWI's website, American Airlines flight 140 to Dallas was expected to depart gate C7 at 4:10 pm.  That flight has been delayed.

A picture sent in to ABC2 News shows one person on a stretcher.  However, Dean says the American Airlines employee in the ground equipment was not hurt.
