Anne Arundel County officials launched the “Safe Stations” initiative to help fight the county’s growing heroin and opioid crisis Thursday.

The program will give residents suffering from drug addiction access to medical professionals at any AACO or Annapolis City Fire Station.

Participants will receive assistance with obtaining detoxification resources and information about addiction treatment placement programs. They will also have access to "Safe Stations" at any time of the day or night.

This program is the first of its kind in Maryland.
