LINTHICUM, Md. - Nelson Bert Lehnert died on Monday after being hit by a vehicle while walking in Linthicum.
Lehnert, 77, was struck by a 2002 Ford Explorer after he apparently stepped off the curb onto Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard.
Richard Charles Snyder, 69, was driving north in the far right lane when he hit Lehnert.
Anne Arundel County Police say that there were no pedestrian control devices or crosswalks in the area, and that Snyder was unable to avoid the collision.
Paramedics took Lehnert to the University of Maryland Hospital-Shock Trauma Center. Initially staff thought that he had survivable injuries. But Lehnert's condition deteriorated.
Lehnert died at 9 p.m. Monday.
Police say that neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors in the collision, but the Traffic Safety Section is continuing the investigation.
