A single car crash on MD 450 leaves one woman from Annapolis dead.

Police say around 11:12 p.m. Friday they were notified of a crash on Defense Highway near Huntwood Drive in Gambrills.

A Ford Ranger driving eastbound on MD-450 left the roadway to the right for and unknown reason, began to roll and struck a tree with the roof.

Fire Department personnel found the victim, 21-year-old Kaley Smith, trapped in the vehicle. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Police say there were no witnesses to the crash and at the moment failure to stay in a single lane is the preliminary cause, although rain may be a contributing factor.

The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and anyone who witnessed the crash or may have any pertinent information is asked to call 410-222-8573.
