Anne Arundel County officials will be expanding the “Safe Stations” program geared towards helping those struggling with addiction.

$200,000 will be invested to expand the county's program. It designates each county and Annapolis fire station as a safe environment for people to start their path to recovery.
The money comes from a $287,000 state grant which is part of the governor's $22 million pledge to fight the opioid epidemic in Maryland.
The remaining funds will go toward education and outreach efforts.
“I believe this expansion of both our safe stations and public outreach efforts, combined with our ongoing efforts, to continue to make Anne Arundel County a state and national model for overcoming this horrific epidemic,” said county executive Steve Schuh.
Since the Safe Stations program launched in April, the county has been able to help about 100 people battling addiction.
