A 14-year-old boy was hit and killed by a car Friday night in Linthicum, Anne Arundel County Police said.

Police said the boy was on Camp Meade Road around Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard when he was hit by an Audi traveling westbound. The boy was in the road outside of the crosswalk area, police said.

The driver, Jonathan T. Smalls, 33, of Baltimore attempted to avoid him, but was unable to do so. He stopped after hitting the boy, and remained at the scene.

The boy was transported to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics, where he died.

The preliminary cause of the accident appears to be pedestrian error, police said.
