Reflecting on the DWTS cast

Hello, my friends. It's back. "Dancing with the Stars" Season 16 is upon us and with it, another cast of who's who of the partially famous.

I, by the way, find that to be part of the charm of DWTS. You might not know these peeps very well, but you will by the end of the season, and your endgame loyalties may surprise you. Let's dip our collective toe into the pool of contestants, shall we?

First on *my* list is none other than the charismatic, end-zone dancing dynamo, Jacoby Jones. This dude has gone from most-hated in the NFL, at least in Houston, to Super Bowl Champ in a year's time. And  no one expected his team, your Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens, to even go to the big game. At some point during the season, they became a "Team of Destiny" and brought the ring back to B'more with some serious help from Mr. Jones. I'm hoping this destiny business gets our boy a trophy, maybe not as esteemed, but just as perty as the Lombardi.

Second on my list is the lovely Dorothy Hamill. We all know she's not quite as relevant as Jacoby is at this particular moment in time, but come on. It's Dorothy Hamill. Ms. Hamill? I wore your haircut for the better part of my childhood. Get on out there and dance, lady.

And, if you're wondering why these two are at the top of my list, it's because they comprise what makes #teambaltimore. Gotta root root root for the home team. I'm hoping and praying that one of these contenders makes it to the finals. Because, rumor has it, if one of them makes it, then maybe, just maybe, I make it. Only time will tell, but I truly believe both Jacoby Jones and Dorothy Hamill have the potential to go far. Hopefully it's far enough to get my booty to LA. But enough about me…

Next on the list, that's in no particular order, but probably alphabetical, is Aly Raisman. She's an Olympic-medal-winning gymnast and she's paired with Marc Ballas. She's going places. Namely, the Finals.

Moving right along to actor/comedian Mr. Andy Dick. I just don't even know what to think about this one. He's hmmm, somewhat erratic. However, DWTS has proved to change public opinion about some, so perhaps he will surprise us all. I hope so. I'd rather see a funny, goofy Andy Dick than a strung-out one. Fingers crossed!

DL Hughely is perhaps my biggest surprise of the season. He's just not someone I'd expect to be on DWTS. Although, I'm not a huge follower of DL Hughely, so maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about. It's possible. He's a comedian and actor and he's paired with Cheryl Burke. I think he's going to be fun.

Next up, Ingo Rademacher. Yeah, I don't know who you are. From reading his Bio on the DWTS web page, it appears as though he's a star on "General Hospital". Good to know. I'm going to label him the "hot guy " of the season.

I'm pretty excited about this next one… Kellie Pickler is in the lineup. I don't know why, but I love her. I wouldn't know a Pickler song if it bit me in the butt, but I find her endearing. And adorable. I think she's going to be alright. I think she'll make it at least halfway.

Lisa Vanderpump. I don't know who you are either (I don't watch much TV). She's a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills. Typically, the reality show contestants don't go too far on DWTS. We'll see where she ends up. I see Kim Kardashian written all over her.

I'm pretty excited to see what Victor Ortiz has to offer. He's a boxer and athletes tend to hold their own on the dance floor. I hope to be pleasantly surprised by him.

Wynonna Judd. My money says she's not going far. God bless Tony Dovolani, Wynonna's partner. Aside from winning last season, he always seems to get paired with the older ladies, who aren't quite up to snuff with everyone else. Shake what your momma gave ya', Wynonna. You're gonna need it.

Zendya, the token Disney Channel star of the season, is another contestant that I don't know, despite the fact that the Disney Channel is on for the better part of any day at my house. Looks like, from her bio, she has a LOT of dance experience. I'm concerned she might give my #teambaltimore a run for their money.

Last by not least, we have Sean Lowe, most recent star of "The Bachelor". I'm not interested in this dude at ALL. It was fun and exciting when Melissa Rycroft got the chance to be on "DWTS". She was the scorned woman. She was looking for redemption. She was the closest thing to a nobody like me getting on the show. I predict he will go nowhere.

There you have it, your DWTS Season 16 lineup, the good, the bad and the not-so-famous. See you after the first night of competition.

Katie Gallagher is a director at WMAR.  She came to us straight out of Towson University after graduating in 1998. She is a mother of three kids ages six and under and doesn't have time to watch much TV, but when she does, it's "Dancing with the Stars."
