9 p.m. is the new midnight thanks to a special countdown.
LAKEWOOD, Colo. - If your New Year's Eve plans include staying up late with the kids, Netflix can help.
The streaming service just released new countdown videos to get children to bed before midnight. Starting Wednesday, parents can help kids choose their favorite cartoon countdown.
"They don't want to miss out on it, but staying up until midnight is just not good for anybody," said Sonja Spitzer, a mother of two. "We'll be hungover from sleep for like two days!"
Netflix's new research found 58 percent of parents want to put the kids to bed early with most agreeing 9 p.m. is the "new midnight."
The research found 41 percent of parents would use special countdowns for kids.
"We find a Youtube video of past New Year's and let the ball drop, so they celebrate and go to bed," said Spitzer.
So this New Year's Eve, parents can turn on Netflix and chill, and ring in the New Year with adults only.
Netflix says 97 percent of families surveyed spend the holiday together.
