Delaware state police say a man believed to have shot a state trooper outside a Wawa convenience store was shot by law enforcement after a barricade inside his own house.
Police said the man exited the residence and engaged officers at 9:17 a.m. Thursday. He was then shot and pronounced dead at the scene at 9:29 a.m.
Master Cpl. Gary Fournier, a state police spokesman, says investigators tracked the gunman to his home in Middletown, about 15 miles south of where the trooper was shot earlier Wednesday afternoon.

Fournier says the man fired multiple shots at officers from inside the house. No other officers were hurt.
Fournier says hostage negotiators responded to the scene and established contact with the gunman in an effort to persuade him to surrender peacefully.
Around 4 a.m. Thursday, officers came under fire and used explosives on several windows.
Residents in the area have been evacuated.
The Delaware State trooper shot and killed at the convenience store has been identified as Cpl. Stephen J. Ballard.
The 32-year-old served on the force for nearly nine years and was a Bowie, Md. native, according to his Facebook page.
