Two Harford County sheriff's deputies were fatally shot in Abingdon Wednesday. The suspect opened fire at Panera Bread in a busy shopping center. Other deputies arrived and opened fire on the suspect killing him.
Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler identified the suspect as 68-year-old David Brian Evans. In a statement, Gahler announced that there was a warrant for Evans' arrest in Harford County for failing to pay attorney fees on a case from the 1990s.

There was also a separate warrant for his arrest in Florida. On April 23, 2015 at approximately 4 a.m., an officer approached a Ford Taurus parked in an office building's parking lot. A Maitland police officer approached the vehicle, finding Evans sleeping in it.
Evans told the officer that he worked in the building and was early for work so he decided to sleep. According to the warrant, the officer observed that Evans might have been living in the vehicle.
The officer called dispatch to report the tag number.
Evans then accelerated out of the parking lot without turning on the headlights and failing to stop at a stop sign.
Another Maitland police vehicle with emergency lights activated was pursuing the vehicle. Evans was traveling on the wrong side of the road against on-coming traffic, doing 70 mph in a 50 mph zone.
Per department policy, the officers deactivated their emergency lights and stopped the patrol vehicles.
The vehicle Evans was operating was reported stolen on July 25, 2014.
He was driving with a drivers license that had been suspended since August 22, 2012. Evans was listed as the owner of a 2004 Ford Taurus with expired registration as of December 25, 2010.
Evans was cited for fleeing/eluding police, resisting arrest and several traffic violations including driving a vehicle without lights, operating a vehicle with suspended license and reckless driving.
