A Middle River woman and her husband had tickets to the Route 91 Harvest Festival, but fell asleep before making it to the show Sunday.

"That's why I came this weekend to Vegas to do this concert," says Linda, who did not want her last name to be used.

After spending the day out in the city, the couple decided to forego their expensive concert tickets and cross country trip to the see the show.

"Being old like this, we laid down and rested and fell asleep," she said. "It was getting later and I was like, 'Well, you know, we're not going to go."

It was a decision that may have saved their lives. Later, Linda heard sirens in the street, went outside to see what was going on, but only got as far as the elevator.

"There was a young couple in there. She was pretty banged up. Her knee was busted. She had scrapes all up and down her arm," Linda said.

They had been running from the chaos and sought refuge in the building.

Linda let them use her phone to call family and friends. She says it wasn't long before her one bedroom condo was full of 12 people who were split up once the shots were fired. None of them had been wounded.

The couple eventually got a chance to call their own family members. Monday, Linda says she walked to the scene of the shooting to stop, say a prayer, and give thanks for her own safety.

"You know, I don't know. Everything happens for a reason. I honestly don't know," she said.
