Montgomery County Police are investigating the death of a man who died after being tased in police custody.
According to police, just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, officers were called to an accident scene on southbound Route 29 near Briggs Chaney Road where a car had hit a barrier.
Fire and rescue personnel started to try to remove the driver, a 40-year-old man, from a black 1993 Cadillac when they say he became violent and assaulted them.
The rescue crew asked for police assistance to get the man under control, but he continued to resist until an officer tased him so they were able to take him into custody.
The man was taken to Suburban Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 11:30 p.m.
The Medical Examiner is working to determine what caused the man's death.
His identity has not been released yet because his next of kin still has to be notified.
Police found a vial of liquid they believe to be PCP in the man's car and a woman who was a passenger in the car, but was not injured in the crash, told officers that the man had taken PCP before the accident.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the accident to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
