A Navy veteran in hospice care only had one dying wish: to see his great-grandchild.
Steven Robinson is proud of his family and among many grandchildren, he only had one granddaughter, Alicia Powell.
She lives in Texas with her husband and 9 months ago, she gave birth to a little girl. Mr. Robinson had only seen the bundle of joy in pictures or heard her while on the phone. It wasn't enough and he wanted to see her face-to-face.
"He always talked about how much he wanted to see his grandbaby," said Patrica Hall, Robinson's daughter-in-law.
On July 22, the family, the VA Maryland Health Care System and the Dream foundation came up with a plan. A week later, Powell and her children arrived at the Seasons Hospice care at Sinai Hospital Friday to surprise Mr. Robinson, but he didn't wake as soon as they entered the room.
"He's so proud of his family. I just wish he could really see her face-to-face, as much as he talked about her. I know he feels her and I feel he can sense here," Hall said.
Moments after she said that, Robinson opened his eyes and his face lit up with joy. It was an encounter months in the making and Robinson was finally able to see his youngest great-grandchild for the first time.
