Enoch Pratt Free Library officials say budget constraints are forcing them to close some library branches on some days and end late-night hours for the telephone reference service.
The Central Library has shorter weekday hours as a result of the change and will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
The Telephone Reference Service with librarians responding to all kinds of queries including homework assistance will now be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Library spokesman Roswell Encina says no full- or part-time employees were laid off or furloughed. They all accepted vacancies elsewhere within the system.
