Nine years after the sniper attacks that paralyzed parts of Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia, an execution date is nearing for John Allen Muhammad.

Attorney's for the convicted killer took his case to the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday.

The Supreme Court is being asked to stop the November 10 execution at a prison in Virginia.

Muhammad's 2002 killing spree left 10 people dead and an entire region terrorized.

Muhammad's teenage accomplice Lee Boyd Malvo is serving a life sentence.

The court could act anytime before the scheduled execution.

Virginia Governor Tim Kaine has also been asked to grant clemency in the case.
