FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A Frederick man has been charged with visiting a Thurmont elementary school without permission while registered as child sex offender.
The Frederick County Sheriff's Office said Monday that most of the alleged violations by 40-year-old Steve Yingling were to drop off or pick up his son at Lewistown Elementary.
The principal told police that Yingling joined a tour of the school Aug. 19 with no students present. He allegedly was seen in the school parking lot three times after that.
Yingling is charged with three counts of being a registered sex offender on restricted property. He couldn't be reached for comment.
Online court records show that Yingling was sentenced to five years in prison in 2004 after pleading guilty to a second-degree sex offense.
