Severe storms rolled across Maryland tonight, knocking out power to thousands of people. The fast moving storms left a path of debris and destruction behind them. BGE and other repair crews are bracing themselves for a long night.
Police report damage in many parts of the state, as heavy rain, high winds and hail pushed over trees and downed power lines.
Some falling trees also caused small fires as they knocked over power lines.
One tree fell and crushed a car in Parkville at the intersection of Putty Hill and Harford Roads. The driver escaped without injury. Another fallen tree blocked part of Charles Street in Towson.
More than 58,000 BGE customers are without power at this hour. Most of the power outages are in Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and Howard County.
