Sarah Palin's Book Finds Readers in Blue Maryland

Reported by: Jeff Hager
Last Update: 11/17/2009 7:28 pm

Steven Baum of the Greetings & Readings book store in Hunt Valley says, “Get in line.”

"People love the political books and we actually sell just as many red books as we do blue books," said Baum, "We've had a steady stream all morning of people picking up the books."

The former vice presidential candidate and governor of Alaska has given up the campaign trail for the book circuit drawing bipartisan interest.

A self-proclaimed conservative, Dr. Richard Vatz, says her aspirations as an author could trump those of a candidate seeking elected office.

"When you get what you don't expect, people pay attention,” said Vatz, “That doesn't mean they vote for you.  It means they pay attention.  I think she was probably one of the worst nominees for Vice-President I've ever seen."

For her part, John McCain’s former running mate isn’t saying whether she plans of running for anything.

Much like Sarah Palin, Maryland has its own former Republican governor who is evasive when it comes to his political future.

We asked Robert Ehrlich if he draws any comparisons between himself and Sarah Palin, and over laughter, he responded, "I never thought of that angle.  I didn't resign though.  I was dismissed."

The question now is whether Ehrlich the attorney, the talk show host and, yes, the author, will set that aside to take on Governor Martin O’Malley as the challenger.

"Go forward with my book, which I've written a manuscript for.  Another option would be the Senate obviously... and another option we're looking closely at is the governor's option for 2010," said Ehrlich, "You try to come to this hardheaded decision about whether people want you to be governor again, because when it comes to Bob Ehrlich and Martin O'Malley---it's very different people and very different directions for our state."
