D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty says the city is preparing to host 2.5 million to 3 million people for President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration.
Fenty said Friday that the city may close down the Southeast/Southwest Freeway to accommodate bus parking.
That would require closing the Roosevelt and 14th bridges to regular traffic.
The bridges would only be open to buses and emergency vehicles.
Fenty says city officials are working with federal authorities to decide on street closures.
He says the city may close additional streets to make room for bus parking and some pedestrian-only areas.
Fenty says no one knows exactly how many people will attend the inauguration.
But he says officials are preparing for the largest possible number of people.
