Principal Accused of Sexually Abusing Another Student

A private school principal from the Eastern Shore who was on the run has turned himself in. 39 year old Lowell Litton was wanted by police for the second time this week after allegations surfaced he abused another student.

Police want to know if more victims are out there.

Litton was the principal at Eastern Shore Junior Academy in Sudlersville. He came highly regarded from another private school where he taught elementary students.

But Litton now faces several charges for allegedly sexually abusing 2 students. Connie Gray of Centreville says, "If that ever happened to my kids, I don't know what I'd do. I'd be really angry."

Earlier this week, Litton was arrested after a 14 year old girl came forward alleging sexual abuse. Days later, a 13 year old girl also said she was a victim. The alleged incidents happened both in and out of school.

The Queen Anne’s County State’s Attorney Lance Richardson says, "We take this very seriously. We got to protect our children and with the allegations he's facing a potential 45 years in prison."

Litton was principal for 4 years. But he also served as a teacher instructing students in the classroom and he coached the co-ed basketball team. The school is out for summer break. About 60 students go there. One teacher says it's like a tight knit family and he feels betrayed by the allegations.

Richardson
says, "Everyone's trust is eroded when you have a situation where someone you entrusted your children to to keep them safe is victimizing them."

The Deputy State’s Attorney John Mark McDonald says, "This is a person who's in a position of authority who's violated the child. That’s the allegation. And if there are more victims, we want them to come forward to make sure they're going to be doing ok. And there are services we can provide to help them."

Litton who was released on bond earlier this week, turned himself in to police at the Centreville barracks on Thursday afternoon.

Counseling will be available at the school next Monday and Tuesday. For more information, you can call the Seventh Day Adventist Headquarters at 410-995-1910.
