As the second leading cause of death in the country, obesity affects more than 69 million obese adults in the US. More than 400,000 deaths per year can be attributed to obesity because individuals who are obese have a higher chance of suffering from life-threatening conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, sleep apnea and pulmonary hypertension.
Due to the incredible number of life-threatening medical conditions related to obesity, people throughout the area have turned to gastric bypass and lap-band surgery at Saint Agnes to reduce a significant amount of weight and their chances of developing one of these conditions.
Saint Agnes Hospital, the area’s leader in bariatric surgery, performs more than 500 bariatric surgeries a year, which represents 31 percent of the bariatric surgeries in the state.
On
Sunday, December 7, Saint Agnes Hospital will host the
7th Annual Bariatric Reunion.
More than 200 graduates from Saint Agnes’ bariatric program, as well as their friends and family, will come together to celebrate their weight loss successes and share their stories.
At the event, Saint Agnes will host an awards presentation and bariatric surgeons Dr. Averbach, Dr. Singh, and Dr. von Rueden will be on hand to congratulate their patients.
